INSET training

Training in outdoor learning:
I run INSET days and twilight sessions for teachers themed on outdoor learning and environmental education. My training sessions give teaching staff the skills and activity ideas they need to deliver engaging hands-on outdoor learning activities which link to the curriculum.

I hold a current DBS (CRB) disclosure and an up-to-date Outdoor First Aid certificate; I have also been fully trained in Child Safeguarding and Health and Safety. My other qualifications include Level 3 Forest School Programme Leader, and CEVAS (Countryside Education Visits Accreditation Scheme).

INSET topics for schools:
I can offer half, full-day or twilight INSET sessions in the following topics, based at your school site and/or at a local outdoor venue of your choice:

  • Habitat studies / Habitat comparison (e.g. woodland, pond, meadow)
  • Adaptation, life cycles, food chains
  • Minibeasts / Pond dipping
  • Plants and trees
  • Gardening / Growing healthy foods
  • Sensory / Experiential activities (e.g. ‘exploring nature’ walks)
  • Seasonal sessions (e.g. seasonal adaptations, life cycles)
  • Eco Art / Recycled crafts – see my Eco Art webpage
  • Creating & using school wildlife areas

I am passionate about environmental education and keen to support the development of outdoor learning skills in teachers and other education professionals. Many recent pieces of research have shown that children and young people benefit educationally, socially, physically and mentally from regular outdoor activity and contact with the natural world: as families become ever more pressed for time, it increasingly falls to schools to provide this.

Feedback from INSET training participants:

“Really enjoyed the session – very informative and interesting, excellent trainer.”

“Lots of fantastic new ideas and activities – thank you. 10 out of 10!”

“I plan to use all of this. Fab!”

“Becca was really knowledgeable about wildlife and children’s abilities in our age group.”

I can provide an INSET session tailored for your school’s needs: to find out more, contact me using the email form on my Contact page to discuss how I can meet your requirements, and to inquire about training costs.
